laugh about it

I watched a girl walk by with her perfect gladiator sandals, sparkling tank top and bump it in her hair that was straightened and dyed.  Her jeans had the typical manufactured holes in them and were studded along the front pocket.  She couldn’t have been much older than 15.  I can’t believe that was the kind of girl I tried to compete with, nay, envied at that age.

I don't know if it's just the south, but what constitutes as attractive around here (as in Valdosta) is the opposite of natural.

Scares me a bit, not going to lie.

i wonder why they don't make murdoc look more like damon
oooweee:

i know i'm a little late, but the gorillaz album is ridiculously good.

i can't get over how much good music is available now, old stuff and new stuff included. attempting to wrap my head around it all is becoming too big of a task.

anyway, favorites (yes, i know some of these are old) currently include:

the black keys-desperate man
gorillaz-melancholy hill, superfast jellyfish, pirate's progress (great instrumental)
broken bells-heads on fire
snoop dogg ft. kid cudi-that tree (surprisingly about family)
dent may and his magnificent ukulele-love song of 2009
andrew bird-fake palindromes
big sean-bullshittin'
drake-show me a good time

and last but not least, everything that's on the fantastic mr. fox soundtrack
i've been listening to that for hours upon hours lately,  i even wake up to "fox in the fields", created by alexander desplat, every morning through my phone's alarm. haha

also of note:
cody chestnutt's album is quite great. if you're anything like me and like the roots circa 2004 and van hunt.. chicky check it out.

oooooweeee.
time to write

here's a link to download andrew bird's black session.. something else i listen to on repeat. tis beautiful.

finally back home and editing pictures while listening to, randomly enough,

grateful dead, a tribe called quest, and sondre lerche

like the drip drip drop of the raindrops
when the summer rain is through
so a voice within me keeps repeating
you you you..

tara sent me the pictures she took back in january finally.

try and tell me i don't look super ethnic in this:

and here's a gem:

anyway..
seeing family is always a treat. everyone's kind of in their own place right now, but we still all had a blast.  my cousin priya's arangetram turned out beautifully. she truly is someone i look up to, even at just 16 years of age. she had a piano recital the day before the performance, pulling through with the hour and a half of dancing alone for a 250 person audience at 4:00 p.m. the next day.

i'll have to explain the arangetram business in person, it's too long and too tedious to write out. either way, it was a big enough deal for all of our cousins to be under one roof (at least most of 'em) in fayetteville, north carolina. the pictures should all be up soon on facebook.

i'll be in valdosta for the next week and a half doing things so i'll probably update more frequently. now i'm going to bed and sleeping in for the first time in a while. weeeeeeeeee.

my writing should/better be a lot better starting tomorrow, this and previous posts are done way too haphazardly.

here's some more fotos:
all credit goes to tarashton photography.

i just love how tall i look in this picture. otherwise my face is pretty darn awkward looking. haha

priya's playing speed of sound on the piano right now..

and ravij is asleep already.

i'm a silly bird. i also look super tan in that picture

i need a hat.

pictures should be up on facebook of my travels so far relatively soon. i've been playing around with 'em a bit. trying to get only the cutest ones up. jaanki's macbook pro is too much fun to play on. i bought a book of pablo neruda's love poems. it's probably going to be in shambles by the time this year is over with my constant rereading.

north carolina is great so far. family is the best. i think i can safely say i have the most fun ever when my cousins are around. they're great. probably better than yours.

just sayin'

look good in leather..

philadelphia is amazing so far. got in at 2:20 and was hanging out at the house by 3. meru is completely adorable and speaking now. he also is obsessed with cell phones. every time i take my phone away from him he starts crying.

he knows how to work an iphone.
he's 2 and a half.

crazy.

anyway, our day was mostly revolved around eating. we walked around for a good bit and found a park in between.

lunch:
arugula, feta and grape tomato salad with a side of hummus and pita
snack:
yoguri-type place with a bunch more flavors and do it yourself toppings, yum
dinner:
prosciutto fixings and margherita pizza at a place called stella

deeeeelicious
